On Friday the driving force in horror and legendary production company, Blumhouse made it’s much-anticipated return to New York Comic Con with its biggest slate of movies ever. BlumFest - the annual October celebration of all things Blumhouse - held its highly anticipated panel in the Javits Center's Empire Room giving fans an exclusive look into Blumhouse’s upcoming 2025 theatrical slate as well as Fear the Spotlight, the first game from Blumhouse Games, releasing on October 22, 2024.

Jason Blum, CEO & Founder of Blumhouse Studios, and the visionary producer behind some of the most electrifying films in modern horror, revealed plans for Blumhouse’s 15th anniversary in 2025 and it’s going to be BIG. Emmy-nominee Nicole Byer (Nailed It!) hosted the suspenseful panel as emcee and creator/ showrunner/ director Mike Flanagan (The Life of Chuck / The Haunting of Hill House) joined as a special guest moderator at the BlumFest panel at New York Comic Con.

NYCC horror fans were first to see the world premiere of the trailer for Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell who also took the stage, the chilling first-look footage from Christopher Landon’s Drop, a new trailer for Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Woman in the Yard, and a look at the highly-anticipated M3GAN 2.0 and many other surprises.

Blumhouse CEO & Founder Jason Blum and friends took center stage to reveal some of the company’s eventful plans for its 15th anniversary next year and, with Atomic Monster, its biggest slate of films ever as they share with NYCC attendees amazing news and surprises. In January 2024, Blumhouse merged with James Wan’s Atomic Monster, which has produced its own successful film franchises including The Conjuring, Aquaman, Annabelle, Mortal Kombat, and The Nun.

Blumhouse is home to the highest number of ongoing franchises of any studio, including Halloween, The Purge, The Black Phone, Paranormal Activity, The Exorcist, Insidious, M3GAN, and Five Nights at Freddy's, along with iconic films from cinematic visionaries including Jordan Peele's Get Out, Damien Chazelle's Whiplash and Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman.

Before the panel began Kevin Bacon called up with a promo for Blumhouse: Get in the Van: a club with special access to exclusive first looks, sneak peeks, killer giveaways, access to special screenings, and “most importantly, if you sign up, you're going to get the scoop on my next love house project, The Bondsman, premiering on Prime Video next year. I can't wait to introduce you to Hub Halloran.”

“The only way to get all of that is to get in the van. So when you see that you are coming to pop up in a second, you scan it and you sign up and you will not regret it. Thanks for coming out today. Enjoy the show. Have a great night. Yeah.” - Kevin Bacon

Nicole Byer introduces CEO James Blum and talks about the launch of the Blumhouse Shop and what fans have to look forward to seeing. Blumhouse has “redefined modern horror” at the beginning of the panel when asked how do you continue to innovate while staying true to what audiences love about your films, Blum responded “I've been excited about this moment because the biggest thing that happened to Blumhouse in the history of the company on a corporate level was our combining with Atomic Monster.”

“Atomic Monster, which we did about 14 or 16 months ago. But movies take a long time to make. So it took a long time to realize the output of what these two companies could do together. It was very important to me when we combined with James Wan and his amazing team, that they continue to operate like they operate, and we continue to operate like we operate. And the result of that is next year, which we have almost twice as many movies as we ever had before, we have 10 movies next year. Woo! We have Wolfman. We have Woman in the Yard. We have Drop. We have Megan Two. We have Black Phone Two. We have a movie none of you have heard of called Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

The scares don't end with film. BlumFest will also pull back the curtain with a trailer for Fear the Spotlight, Blumhouse's first video game. Fear the Spotlight is a creepy love letter to classic 90s horror experiences with a focus on rich storytelling, puzzle solving, and a tense atmosphere. This is a perfect narrative horror game for those new to the genre. Fear the Spotlight is developed by Cozy Game Pals and published by Blumhouse Games.

Blumhouse's 2025 movie slate: Everything from M3GAN 2.0 to Five Nights at Freddy's 2

The Wolf Man

  • The heart-stopping world premiere trailer debuted for Wolf Man, directed by horror visionary Leigh Whannell who joined Blum and Byer on stage, promising a truly unique and modern adaptation boosted by the all-star cast. The trailer was followed by a Q&A session with Whannell, bringing fans inside his creative vision for the film.

“Wolfman also explores the terror of a loved one becoming a threat.” When asked about challenges Whannell expresses “It's very difficult…”I mean, as the horror fans in this room know, it's really hard to get it right. I think some people think it's easy, but the technicality and the precision, the choreography of making something scary, I think, is the hardest thing.”

When asked about the casting and how critical that was, he states “I mean, it's huge, I think, for any horror movie, as Jason knows. A lot of these movies are dealing with these outlandish situations, or heightened situations. You can only sell that to an audience through these proxy characters that make it believable.” He goes on to say “I think it's one of the most, if not the most important thing in a horror film is getting the actors right. So I was really happy to have this cast because Julia Garner, Chris Abbott and Matilda Firth, the young girl, they’re allergic to inauthenticity. You just believe what’s happening to them.”

The Woman in the Yard

  • An exclusive first look at Jaume Collet-Serra's The Woman in the Yard, starring and executive produced by Danielle Deadwyler.

Today’s the day. A woman in black appears on a family’s front lawn and delivers a chilling warning, Where did she come from? What does she want? When will she leave?

Fans got an exclusive first look at the eerie teaser trailer for blumhouse’s The Woman In the Yard, which hits theaters on March 28, 2025. It appears the trailer hasn't officially released to the public yet. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Sam Stefanak. It stars Danielle Deadwyler, Okwui Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson and Estella Kahiha.

“It was a good fit for Blumhouse because, ever since I saw House of Wax which is Jaume Collet-Serra, one of his early movies… I was losing my mind at Paramount when I saw that movie and I loved it, and I met him right after I saw that and said, ‘We would love to do a movie with you.’ And we stayed in touch,” Blum explained.

Drop

  • Exclusive first-look footage from Christopher Landon's Drop, starring Meghann Fahy, and a Q&A with the director and actress.

Everyone’s a suspect according to the new poster for Drop, the latest horror thriller from director Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day). And it brings with it a new release date.

After the exclusive trailer for the film Drop screened, its star, Meghann Fahy (White Lotus) and director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day/ Freaky), came out to discuss the project. Drop releases only in theaters on April 11, 2025. The movie follows a woman who is on a first date only to find herself receiving horrifying airdrops from a sadistic stalker.

Landon talks about the inspiration for the film “So, actually our producers, they were at dinner at some restaurant and they started getting airdrops from somebody in the room. And they spent the whole night trying to figure out who it was.

“I think it’s a good cautionary tale,” Landon explained. “I don’t think you need to delete all your apps, but the movie definitely touches upon the idea that we live in an age where being harassed and attacked by someone you can’t see [is possible]. I think it’s a part of everyone’s lives whether they like it or not and I think that this movie taps into that.”

Expanding on fear of tech he added “obviously the best work comes from things that we ourselves are really fearful of. I think especially in the last four or five years, there's been an enormous amount to be fearful of on the phones that are in our pockets, an enormous amount. And there's a trend towards even taking those phones away from young people. And they're scary.”

The Exorcist

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The Fall of the House of Usher) then joined Jason Blum on the stage to discuss some of the films sadly too early in production to show footage to, such as his own upcoming Exorcist sequel and The Black Phone 2, which begins shooting soon as well as the sequel to last year’s highest-grossing horror film, Five Nights at Freddy’s, which releases on December 5th 2025. While he couldn't disclose much, he was willing to discuss the legacy of the original horror movies.

Flanagan tells the crowd “Well, I think it's because it's one of the most legendary horror films of all time. You know, I grew up with The Exorcist. That movie was very formative for me. I think, it was the scariest movie ever made at the time that it came out. And so I saw an opportunity to make it the scariest movie I've ever made now. And then I just couldn't resist it. And, you know, being able to work with Jason again and work with Bloodhouse again, I've wanted to do that for years because it's so much fun.”

The Black Phone 2

Black Phone fans are in luck, because the entire original cast and creative team are back for the thrilling sequel, based on Joe Hill’s incredible story. The big question was whether or not Scott Derrickson was willing to step back in the director’s chair.

“There’s no way you could get Scott to do anything just because a movie was successful,” he explained. “When the movie did well, I of course said, ‘Can we figure out a sequel on this?’ Some directors say yes, and some directors say no. Scott said, ‘Let me think about it.’”

“Ethan will come back and [we] get our original cast back. I think there's a way to continue this story that we really would like to do. And that was music to my ears. We're here today, but he actually starts shooting in Toronto. I talked to him yesterday. I think in a way though, Scott can be here today, is what I'm told, is that they have a special message from Scott Derrickson.”

In fact, Derrickson himself did do a video-drop in from Toronto on the set of Black Phone 2 to tease some details about the sequel.

“The same way that The Black Phone, the original movie, was a middle school coming-of-age film, this is a high school coming-of-age film. It’s a film I’m very excited about,” he said. “I’m hoping to make a film as good, if not better, than the first one, that’s always the goal. Some of your favorite characters are returning, Ethan Hawke is returning, and we’ve also cast Demián Bichir who you may know from Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, he played Mexican Bob. I wish you all a really good time and I look forward to making this movie for you. It comes out October 17, 2025 and I hope you all go see it.”

Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Blum couldn't let anything slip or reveal anything yet about the highly anticipated sequel to one of the most successful video game adaptations, but that doesn't mean they left the crowd empty handed. Fans did get the first look at the movie’s official poster, and he could say was that “If you liked the first movie, you're going to love the second one!”

“Next time it'll be a trailer, but that's our poster guys. Whoa! Woo!... If you like the first one, you're going to love the second one. I cannot wait. I didn't know I could tell you, but thank you. And the visuals are awesome. Very, very awesome.”

M3GAN 2.0

We can't leave here without sharing something about our favorite serial killer robot, Megan!

  • A Q&A with M3GAN 2.0 star and producer Allison Williams, plus a special message just for NYCC attendees from M3GAN herself.

Blumfest ended with actress Allison Williams coming to the stage to tease M3GAN 2.0, of which she reprises her role from the original. Allison thanked Jordan Peele for getting her in the horror genre, and her iconic role in Get Out. When asked if more people recognize her from Get Out or M3Gan, she responded “Well, if they talk to me, it's M3gan. If they just look at me with fear in their eyes and move across the street, it's Get Out.”

Not much was revealed about the sequel yet, but Allison did share her thoughts on the creepy animatronic and practical effects that make M3gan so terrifying and getting to be a part of the horror genre.

“Well, I mean, she's kind of a diva. When Megan rolls on the set, and I mean it, sometimes she's rolled on the set. The vibe shifts in the room. It gets way more spooky. And it was fun to give it a second time. We were like, okay, we know how this is achieved. We know how to do it. Next time we can have a little bit more fun and make it bigger and more expansive for that reason. Yeah, it was really fun.”

“Seriously, I wanted to work in this space to interact with the people who love these movies. I was like, this is kind of addictive. It's amazing to tell stories in this mixture of genres where you can really play with archetypes and just make new rules. And in the blockbuster, you get to support these new filmmakers and their vision, and you get to make the things that they just need to produce. And I just sit away and just look at it. It's so fun.”

Ending the panel was a special message for NYCC attendees from M3gan herself, appearing via video promising she’ll be back to slaying in June 2025 when the movie hits theaters.
